It has become a universal custom on the Shabbat of the week that a boy turns Barmitzvah, that he read in shule (synagogue) the Maftir and Haftarah for that week, and sometimes even the whole Parasha (weekly portion).
We recommend that the boys start learning 12 – 18 months prior to their Barmitzvah so that they have enough time to learn the correct way to read and sing the tunes, and also prepare their alloted Parasha.
Our lessons not only promote the art of Torah Reading as a positive endeavour but also as one that they may want to continue throughout their lives. Therefore, it is crucial that they do not merely memorise their Parasha, but also gain the tools to be able to prepare any Parasha for themselves.
Lessons cost $30 per hour lesson. It is highly recommended that each boy purchase his own Tikkun Korim, preferably the one produced by Simanim.
It is possible to complete the first phase of lesson in a group, as they are learning the basic skills and tunes that are the same for any portion. We have special discounted rates for groups.
It is also possible to conduct lessons over the internet.
We offer a special lesson in the proper Halachot (laws) and maintenance of tefillin and a discount in tefillin purchases for any Barmitzvah taking lessons with us.
